Many people ask, do Angels exist?
I’ll start with a story, one day serveral years ago, I put some food on the stove to warm up. While it was warming, I lay down on the couch. Un fortunately, I fell asleep- and I can still remember lying there and almost hearing a voice inside of me saying,
“Getup. Get up.”
I turned over and tried to ignore the feeling.
But it got louder:
“Get up! Get up!”
So I jumped up, Wondering what was going on. Then I remembered the food on the stove, and I ran into the kitchen. I got there just as flames began rising over the stove. I got to that mess just in time to grab it off of the stove, and take it to the sink. Women may shake their heads, because I didn’t smother the fire by putting the lid on the pan. Anyway, When the water hit that stuff, it was so red-hot that it exploded right in the sink. Then I realized how close it was to exploding on the stove and starting a serious fire. My response was, Lord, thank you for your angelic wake-up call that brought me to life.” I did not make that reference to angels flippantly.I firmly believe that this incident was an example of angelic activity in my life as a child of God. My guardian angel was doing his job that day.
You probably have a similar story of being “touched by an angel” in your own life.
Maybe it was that time you were nodding off behind the wheel and you suddenly awoke just in time to steer away from disaster.
I believe times like that are instances of angelic activity. The physical, visible realm is greatly effected by the spiritual, invisible realm that the Bible calls the “heavenly places.” What happens in the spiritual realm controls and influences what happens in the visible realm. So, the better we understand the invisible spiritual realm, the more prepared we will be to wage successful spiritual warfare against our adversary the devil. I don’t have to tell you that the angels are in vogue. You can find “angel clubs “and angel stores that specialize in angelic collectibles. Angels have hit prime time on television and in films. Both times and newsweek magazines have featured angels on their covers. The world is fascinated by the idea of helpful supernatural forces operating in the world.
But a lot of what we see about angels in popular culture is inaccurate and trite when we compare it to what the Bible teaches about angels. They are an invisible army of beings who manage history for God. They aren’t just cute, friendly creatures who want to protect you and make you feel good about yourself. Angels have much more significance than the culture is giving them, and it’s biblically impossible to talk about Angels without discussing God. It’s time to get past the popular, secular view of angels and understand what is really happening in the angelic realm.
In the course of doing so, we will deal with some things that we don’t fully understand. But that’s OK, because there are a lot of things about life that we don’t fully understand. So let’s ask and then try to answer the question, Who are the angels?
The first thing to know about angels is that they are created beings. Several traits of the Holy angels are also true of demons. That’s because, of course, the demons are themselves fallen angels, created in purity and power until they followed satan in his rebellion. So we will see some similarities between angels and demons.
